Agfa Radiology Solutions is pleased to announce that Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust, a facility specializing in women’s and babies’ health in Liverpool, UK, has installed a DR 800 ‘multi-tool’ digital X-ray room. The system was ordered in late 2024 and became fully operational on April 2, 2025.
The versatile DR 800 replaced an older X-ray system that lacked the comprehensive functionality required to meet the hospital’s needs for both neonatal and adult imaging. The DR 800 was selected for its high image quality, cost-effectiveness, and ability to support a broad range of patients, from the smallest babies to adults, with one single equipment solution.
The right image the first time
“The Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust is constantly innovating and evolving its services to provide the most cutting-edge and modern care possible. The DR 800’s flexibility enables us to perform both general radiography and fluoroscopy using the same system, without moving the patient from table to table, for both babies and adults, streamlining workflow and maximizing clinical efficiency. In addition to serving our patients at our hospital, the system will also support diagnostic services for other facilities in the region, including Alder Hey Children’s Hospital,” says Liz Read, Lead Radiographer at Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust.
“We are pleased that Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust has chosen Agfa Radiology Solutions and the DR 800 to replace the previous X-ray system at the hospital. Our digital radiography solutions are designed to deliver an optimum balance between high image quality and low radiation dose, which is important for all patients but especially in neonatal patients. We are committed to ensuring that every image counts, so that ‘one image is all it takes’. By reducing the need for repeats, the DR 800 not only supports an enhanced workflow and faster diagnosis, but further reduces dose. Our MUSICA® image processing software plays a role, too, providing excellent image quality and greater diagnostic confidence at low dose,” says Martin Tew, Sales Leader UK & Ireland of Agfa Radiology Solutions.
Versatility and high performance
The DR 800 is a versatile ‘multi-tool’ X-ray room, offering high performance for both digital radiography and fluoroscopy from a single investment. The DR 800 comes with Dynamic MUSICA® image processing software that handles fluoroscopic images with the same high quality and low-dose features that have made MUSICA® the ‘gold standard’ for radiology departments around the world. This is particularly valuable for neonatal imaging, where maintaining high image quality at the lowest possible dose is essential to patient safety.
Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust is a major obstetrics, gynecology and neonatology research hospital in Liverpool, UK. Each year, it delivers about 7,500 babies, carries out some 80,000 gynecological inpatient and outpatient procedures, and cares for over 1,000 ill or premature newborns. The hospital’s team includes some of the leading experts in their field.
