The installation of Agfa’s DR 800 Digital Radiology solution marks a new phase in the modernization of Clínica Bazterrica’s Diagnostic Imaging Department. The ability to integrate direct digital radiography and fluoroscopy on a single solution makes it possible to expand services, optimize patient care workflows, and offer new diagnostic alternatives for adult and pediatric patients. Dr. María Paz García Kosinski, Head of the Department, shares the institution’s experience with Agfa’s DR 800 digital X-ray room.

With more than 80 years of experience in the City of Buenos Aires, Clínica Bazterrica is part of Grupo Omint and has 160 beds, professionals from different specialties, and high-technology equipment. In recent years, the institution has advanced a renewal process aimed at combining medical excellence, technological innovation, and personalized care.

As part of this strategy, the Diagnostic Imaging Department plays an important role. It currently includes Conventional Radiography, Ultrasound and Doppler Ultrasound, Computed Tomography, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Approximately 5,000 radiographic examinations are performed each month, a volume that creates the need for technologies capable of supporting high demand while also expanding diagnostic possibilities.

In this context, the institution recently  installed Agfa’s DR 800 digital radiology room, a solution that integrates direct digital radiography and fluoroscopy and enables different types of examinations to be performed in the same room.

One Platform, Multiple Applications

Versatility was precisely one of the determining factors when selecting the new equipment.

“We needed to perform conventional radiography, contrast-enhanced examinations, and fluoroscopy. The choice was related to the possibility of covering all these types of examinations with a single system in the same room,” explains Dr. María Paz García Kosinski.

As Agfa’s DR 800 makes it possible to consolidate different applications on a single platform, the hospital can optimize equipment utilization and offers the department the opportunity to progressively expand its portfolio of services.

Fluoroscopy for Adult and Pediatric Patients

One of the main changes resulting from the installation of Agfa’s DR 800 is the development of contrast-enhanced examinations, a service that Clínica Bazterrica had stopped providing for a period and is now offering again.

In addition, the department plans to introduce fluoroscopy-guided arthrography, continuing to expand its diagnostic offerings.

“Physicians value  high image quality, and we are getting very good  results with Agfa’s DR 800 solution. The system’s operation and the workflow enabled by its remote-controlled functionality are also  a big advantage,” says García Kosinski.

Diagnostic Quality and a More Efficient Workflow

Direct digitization and the ability to operate the system remotely also provide benefits for the day-to-day work of physicians and radiologic technologists.

“We are obtaining very good image quality in our examinations, while at the same time the technology facilitates a smooth workflow for the entire team,” the specialist notes.

The installation of Agfa’s DR 800 is particularly relevant given the characteristics of Clínica Bazterrica, which serves outpatients, inpatients, and patients coming from the emergency department.

In this setting, the ability to adjust the examination table height makes it possible to  accommodate patients with different levels of mobility.

“We have patients with reduced mobility, as well as others who have no mobility issues. Being able to adapt the table to these different patients makes our work much easier,” García Kosinski explains.

The technology thus becomes not only a tool for obtaining high-quality images, but also a resource for improving the patient experience and making care workflows more efficient.

Training and Support During Implementation

Another aspect highlighted by the Clínica Bazterrica team was the installation and training process associated with the installation of Agfa’s DR 800.

“Each system has its own particular features, but the launch process was not complicated. We had support from Agfa’s application team from the beginning, and the technologists and physicians performed the examinations together with the applications specialist. That made the adaptation process very dynamic,” García Kosinski recalls.
