Brazil’s EBSERH university hospital network chooses Agfa’s DR 800 multi-purpose X-ray room to bring digital imaging to 8 hospitals

Agfa Radiology Solutions announces that the Brazilian Hospital Services Company (EBSERH / Empresa Brasileira de Serviços Hospitalares) has purchased eight multi-purpose DR 800 direct radiography (DR) rooms, through a turnkey tender. With the contract signed in January 2024, the versatile, fully integrated rooms are being installed in eight university hospitals around the country, starting in October 2024.

EBSERH’s hospital network is composed of 41 university hospitals with a broad population coverage nationwide. In addition to being important centers of education, they provide support for teaching, research and extension at the federal higher education institutions to which they are linked.

“We are pleased to work with Agfa Radiology Solutions on this important project to upgrade the university hospitals from analog to digital imaging. Agfa’s tender met our requirements for advanced technology in a cost-effective solution supported by a service maintenance agreement that is aligned with the high standards of our university hospitals,” says Carlo Grimaldi, Principle Engineer, Engineering Department, Missão Engenharia.

This is our first turnkey project in Brazil, and will open the door to greater visibility and presence in the market. We are proud that our DR 800 rooms will bring the workflow and image quality benefits of digital imaging to eight important healthcare education and research centers that are training and preparing the doctors of the future,” says Vanessa Souza, Tender Office Coordinator, Agfa Radiology Solutions Brazil.

The DR 800 comes with Dynamic MUSICA® image processing software, which can handle fluoroscopic images with the same high quality and low-dose features that have made MUSICA® the ‘gold standard’ for radiology departments around the world. The unique dose-efficient Dynamic Multiscale Enhancement™ (DME) enables superb image quality and the lowest possible dose for barium studies, arthrograms, cystograms, myelography and catheter placement, among other benefits.

Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) and Roadmapping further extend the possibilities of dynamic imaging on the DR 800. DSA is a fluoroscopy technique used in interventional radiology to clearly visualize blood vessels in a bony or dense soft tissue environment. Roadmapping is a technique used to assist live wire and catheter guidance in fluoroscopy images.
